Awethentic Tales is headed by Janet Awe. Having worked in production companies as well as at a broadcaster, she has first hand experience of developing, producing and commissioning television, from both sides of the fence, as well as producing award-winning web series and shorts.
Janet is also a well-established script editor, employed by broadcasters, production companies and directly by writers for their features, shorts and TV projects.
Janet started working in the industry after leaving a 20-year marketing and PR career. First, she earned a Masters in Screenwriting, from Birbeck, University of London before gaining a Post-Graduate in Script Development, from the National Film and Television School. Her screenwriting background gives her a deep affinity with writers, and she loves helping them blossom alongside their scripts.
Understanding the challenges around breaking into the TV and film industry has also given Janet a passion for championing emerging talent. This led her to set up a new writer and producer initiative, in 2017, when she worked in Sky’s comedy team. The resulting comedy drama commission – Bleak House Guest, for Sky Art’s Urban Myths strand – gave 20 people their first TV credit in that role. It also marked the first of many initiatives that Janet would take on, to continue supporting emerging talent.
Since then, Janet has been blessed to work with some brilliant creatives and companies, including spending over two years at Merman TV working in its development team and on Dreamland, a six-part comedy drama for Sky starring Freema Agyeman and Lily Allen.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept unsolicited material and will have to delete anything sent to us, without reading it. We know this can be frustrating. However, it is quite common for similar ideas to be floating around or in development by different people and companies. Therefore, to avoid confusion, we ask that material is submitted via an agent so that it can be tracked. Thank you for understanding.
